Austin ABC Q & A: Difference Between a Midwife and a Doctor for Delivery?

November 30th, 2009 No comments

Queation: What is the primary difference between going through a Midwife or a Doctor for my delivery? I have the option to either go with a doctor or a midwife and was wondering what the best option would be...

Answer: The main difference is that a midwife is more personal and less expensive. A midwife tends to lean toward a more natural birth experience and many women prefer a more comfortable and dedicated birth setting when having their child.

Hospital care is much more expensive, and the birth delivery setting tends to be more medical. Many women have expressed their desire for a more pleasurable birthing experience with a midwife and appreciate the added personal attention.

Having a personal relationship with our clients rather than treating them as a number is just one of the many things we do better at our birth center at Austin ABC.

What is a Nurse Midwife?

November 30th, 2009 No comments

A certified nurse-midwife, or CNM, is an advanced practice nurse who is educated and certified in Midwifery and Nursing in the United States.

A certified nurse-midwife is a primary healthcare provider for women who are expecting and generally are not profiled as high risk for giving birth.

At Austin Area Birthing Center, safety always comes first. If natural birth risks the health of the mother or child, then they are immediately transported to a hospital with a specialized neo-natal care unit.

“My birth experience was so perfect that I would say it was like the movies.  But the movies NEVER show you a non-ridiculous birth. So I’ll say it was better than the movies, and we rode off into the sunset.”
